Boise, Idaho. Drug and alcohol resources. Rehab Inpatient is also known as residential care, offers full accommodation while patients undergo rigorous addiction treatment and therapy. Addiction experts monitor the patient throughout the treatment process

While some medical plans may not cover inpatient detox and rehabilitation, they may be willing to pay for part or all of an intensive outpatient program. There are also options for affordable or free drug and alcohol rehab. If you have the resources to get into the best rehabilitation program possible, you’re best off to do that. Some of the programs that are free will be a long wait time or don’t offer the amount of support you need.

There is no substitute for physically attending an AA meeting. But not everyone is able to do that. Fortunately, there are online AA meetings available, and they can provide a lot of support.

The Idaho Area 18 AA organization has listed multiple options for online AA meetings on their website. These are local meetings, so participants can still work with others within their own community. Also, the Online Intergroup AA organization has provided several options for virtual AA meetings.

NA Meetings in Boise, ID

Like AA, Narcotics Anonymous (NA) adheres to a 12-step plan that has helped countless people regain control of their lives. Narcotics Anonymous provides support to those suffering from drug addiction in all its forms. NA is there to help anyone struggling with addiction to:

  • Marijuana
  • Heroin
  • Cocaine
  • Methamphetamines
  • Prescription opioids
  • Other drugs, prescription or illicit
Narcotics anonymous is similar to alcoholics anonymous, narcotics anonymous provides addicts with a place to find support, individuals with an illicit drug problem and those with a dependency on prescription pills or alcohol are accepted

Don't assume that addiction isn't a problem just because it comes from a doctor and not a dealer. Consider an addiction assessment if you think you may have a problem. And if you're interested in getting support at local NA meetings, see this list of gatherings in Treasure Valley to find a meetup near you.

What to Do for a Heroin Overdose

A heroin overdose can be deadly, especially since Fentanyl was thrown in the mix. The first step is to call 911. Idaho is one of the states that honor the Good Samaritan laws. Here’s the disclaimer though, if you give the person first aid and don’t actually know how to treat the person overdosing, you can be held liable. It’s likely you won’t have a dose of Naloxone to bring the heroin user out of the overdose. Your first reaction should be to call 911. If you suspect it’s a drug overdose, let them know so they can come prepared.

Emergency medical providers provide emergency care to people overdosing on the scene. They are taken to emergency for more care. When the patient reaches emergency, they will often induce vomiting or use IV fluids. This will stabilize the person. It can take a few days for the person to recover from the trauma their body went through.

Naloxone has been used in the medical system all over the U.S. for years. As of July 1, 2015, Idaho has allowed easy access to Naloxone. First responders will use it when attending a scene, which is saving the lives of heroin users. Naloxone can also be used in opioid prescription painkiller overdoses.

During a cocaine overdose call 911 right away to get emergency medical help, apply a cold cloth or compress to help keep their body temperature down, seizures may occur, so move anything around them to avoid injury, stay with them until help arrives

What to Do During a Cocaine Overdose

When someone overdoses on cocaine, get medical help immediately. While waiting for the ambulance, apply a cold cloth or compress on the person to help keep their body temperature down. They may have seizures so move anything around them to avoid injury. Stay with the person until medical help comes. The medical professionals will check their vitals and benzodiazepines may possibly be used to calm the person down.

Free Resources in Boise, ID

Twelve-Step groups are always free. Some churches and community centers offer their space for the meetings. If you’re a part of a church community, they may have support for addiction. There are funds the state of Idaho gives to certain treatment centers and organizations. This allows them to treat addicts for free or for a reduced price based on a sliding scale.

There are deferred prosecution programs. For those who are first-time offenders in a drug-related crime, they are eligible for many of the programs. In many ways, this is what can make it challenging to get into these free programs. Many addicts haven’t committed crimes so they aren’t considered for the free programs. If you can get in, the programs aren’t always as in-depth as an addict needs.

What are some questions you should ask a recovery treatment facility?

What type of detox do you offer?

Find out if they offer medically assisted or medically monitored detox. These programs monitor your vitals while you’re going through withdrawal. This is the most acutely uncomfortable part of your recovery. They will look to make sure your body is managing the withdrawal as comfortably as possible. Medical detox is when you get medications administered to ensure you remain safe through the process. This can prevent seizures that may occur with certain addictions.

What type of treatment therapies are available?

Various rehabs have different kinds of treatment. There is dialectical behavior therapy, faith-based, adventure, and trauma based to name a few. Dialectical behavior therapy is one of the most proven therapies. Some rehabs won’t offer the full program. Make sure to ask any facility what their treatment program offers. It’s important to do the full program to deal with all the aspects of what caused addiction.

What medical insurance companies do you work with?

You want to go to a rehab that your insurance plan will cover if possible. This can save you thousands of dollars. An intensive outpatient facility is usually more likely to be considered with your insurance because it tends to cost far less.

Do you have inpatient and outpatient treatment programs?

Who are the professionals on staff? What are their credentials?

Find out what kind of credentials the staff has for their programs. Peer-to-peer therapy is good support but you need someone trained in addiction. What is their level of education? They should have a master’s degree in Social Work. Doctors involved should be certified for Addiction Medicine. Also, ask what the patient to staff ratio is. You want to ensure you have help whenever you need it.

What kind of after-care does the facility provide?

You may need additional support after detox and rehabilitation have completed. Find out what kind of after-care you can get.

Why AA Meetings in Boise Aren’t Often Enough

It’s important to note that while there are free programs like NA and AA meetings in Boise, you need more. Ashwood recovery at Northpoint for treatment is a good starting point on your journey to full recovery. As an intensive outpatient program (IOP), it offers you the ability to keep your life on track while you get the help you need. The treatment center is in the Boise/Meridian area.

Alcohol and Drug Rehabs in Boise, ID

Even though drug and alcohol rehab may not be the best option for everyone, for most people, it can be very beneficial. The right treatment program can make such a big difference in a person’s long-term outcome. When they choose a quality facility, they will get a lot of support to help them reach their recovery goals.

While there are several alcohol and drug treatment facilities in the area, anyone seeking treatment should proceed with caution. Not every program will be able to provide them with what they need. It is important to ask questions about the care they will receive prior to making a commitment.

The best drug and alcohol rehabs offer patients their own, unique treatment plans. They understand that everyone’s needs are different and people recover in various ways. It is also important to find a Joint Commission accredited program that maintains a small patient to staff ratio.

There are more than 20 alcohol and drug treatment facilities in the Boise area, alone. According to the SAMHSA treatment locator tool, there are almost a hundred of them within a 50-mile radius. That means that people have plenty of options to choose from. But again, it is important to choose the right type of program for every individual person.
