In 1935, two men who had drinking problems made a decision to start an organization that would help them stop. They believed that peer support was what it would take to help others in their situations. The result was Alcoholics Anonymous.
As of today, AA is available in many other countries all around the world. Millions of people have gotten sober because of this organization. The meetings are held on a weekly basis, and there is no fee for attending or becoming a member.

Narcotics Anonymous was started twenty years after AA, in 1955. It is an organization that was founded for the purpose of helping drug addicts stop using. But they invite anyone with any kind of addiction to attend their meetings. Like AA, they too can be found all over the world.
NA meetings have been so helpful to so many people in the United States. Members attend them on a weekly basis, and the meetings may include special speakers or discussion about the 12 Steps of Recovery. There is no fee charged for attending or for membership.
For a drug addict, attending an NA meeting in the Coeur d’Alene area can be so helpful. There are many to choose from, and they are taking place all throughout the week.

When someone they love is suffering from an addiction to drugs or alcohol, families often find it difficult to cope. They may not know what to do, and they may wonder why their loved ones do not just stop using. They spend a lot of time thinking about the addict, and this may lead to depression, anxiety and isolation. Fortunately, Al-Anon was founded as a way to help them. They offer weekly support group meetings where families can come and get the assistance they need.
Alateen is an extension of Al-Anon, but it is only for young people. Teenagers and young adults are invited to come to weekly meetings to talk about the issues they face. Some meetings also allow older children to attend.
Attending a Coeur d’Alene Al-Anon meeting can provide families with so much support. There are several in the local community.

One of the best places for most addicts and alcoholics seeking addiction treatment to start is a rehab program. Drug or alcohol rehab provides the best way to actually stop using your substance of choice, and develop the tools needed to do so on an ongoing basis. Support groups, such as AA or NA, are great places when you need ongoing support. However, they are usually not the best way to begin.
It is difficult to answer exactly which program is better, inpatient or outpatient. Not all addictions are the same, and some may be better suited for one than the other. Personal living situations may also be more compatible with a live-in scenario than other people's circumstances. A frank and complete assessment of all factors is the best way to make sure you choose the most effective one for your addiction treatment.
An outpatient alcohol or drug rehab program is where the patient travels to the facility instead of living there. In the beginning of the program, a schedule will be made defining when therapy sessions are, how long they will last and exactly where to attend them. Types of therapy usually include individual and group therapy, and the length and intensity of the program primarily depends on the severity of the addiction.
Most people that opt for an outpatient rehab program usually do so to accommodate responsibilities they have in their personal and professional lives. This type of program is also usually a good fit for those with addictions to drugs or alcohol that are less severe.
If your addiction is more on the serious side, you may need more attention and assistance than an outpatient program can provide. Inpatient rehab, which usually includes a detox phase, involves a patient staying full time at the facility, and leaving the grounds is usually strictly forbidden without supervision. Not only does this avoid the potential of relapse, it also gives round-the-clock care. It is difficult or impossible to predict when cravings or urges can strike, so inpatient rehab ensures the help is there when it is needed.
If you are looking for a rehab program located in Coeur d’Alene, there are many to choose from. Fourteen different facilities can be found in the city, all but three of which can help both recovering addicts and alcoholics, rather than solely drug addiction. The 14 facilities are divided into 12 outpatient programs and two inpatient facilities.
Ashwood Recovery is an outpatient rehab program that is effective for the treatment of both drug and alcohol addiction. While this includes a bit of a drive from Coeur d’Alene, the services offered more than make up for any effort getting there.
Both of out outpatient facilities offer different levels of care as part of the services they offer. These include standard and intensive outpatient, as well as a partial hospital, also known as a day program. Each patient is evaluated upon starting the program to determine which level is right for them. Therapy options include individual and group therapy, as well as holistic and cognitive behavioral therapy, or CBT.
Northpoint Recovery is an inpatient rehab facility located in the state capital of Boise. Northpoint Recovery's 28-day program is an excellent choice for those seeking the security and comfort of an inpatient setting. Professionals are available around the clock to make sure that your addiction-recovery efforts do not hit a snag along the way.
Northpoint Recovery's program begins with a seven day detox phase. This is usually the most difficult part of a rehab program, considering it is when your body adjusts to not having either drugs or alcohol. One this initial week is up, the program proceeds into the rehab phase. This gives a full three weeks to learn all the tools needed to keep on keeping on with your sobriety.
One of the most basic factors when selecting an inpatient or outpatient rehab program is whether or not they accept your insurance. Both Ashwood Recovery and Northpoint Recovery include a long list of accepted plans, most exciting of which is our new addition of Blue Cross of Idaho. Many people do very well with recovering from addiction through attending support groups. But for others, they are best utilized as additional support as they continue on in recovery. The vast majority of people with addictions need to begin by going through drug or alcohol treatment first. This is because they need help to heal from the physical and the psychological sides of the addiction.
This is a form of treatment that addresses the physical aspect of the addiction. Withdrawal symptoms are very real, and in some cases, they can even become dangerous, or life threatening. There are some drugs that require detoxification before entering any type of rehab facility.
By using a combination of medical and holistic treatments, drug and alcohol detox can help people get through the withdrawal period. They also have a much higher chance of being successful in the long-term.
Once an individual has gone through detox, they are ready for drug and alcohol rehab. This is where the mental part of the addiction is addressed.
A lot of people suffer from co-occurring disorders, and many of them are unaware of it. They also do not realize that these mental health conditions can be contributing to their substance abuse problems.
Working with a therapist can help to determine if someone has a co-occurring disorder. It needs to be treated so that the individual has a better chance of recovering.
