12-Step support groups have long been a popular method of addiction recovery. Groups like Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous have been instrumental in the lives of millions of people. These organizations have weekly meetings all over the world, and there are several in the Sammamish area.
So many families have loved ones that are struggling with addictions to drugs and alcohol. The family members want to help, but they are lost because they do not know how. Fortunately, Al-Anon and Alateen are there to offer support. They also have weekly meetings where people can come together and discuss their challenges.
Please note that we are not affiliated with any of these programs. But we know how well they complement addiction treatment. They are just some of the recovery resources people can access in the Sammamish area.
Below, we detail many of the important things to know about addiction recovery near Sammamish, including:
For most addicts, alcoholics, or long-term substance abusers, the road to recovery should begin with a professional detox program followed by a rehab program.
Detox as a first step ensures that addicts’ bodies are free of the substance they’ve become addicted to. More often than not, addiction goes hand in hand with physical dependence. The process of detoxification teaches the body to stop relying on the substance, addressing the physical side of addiction.
After detox comes rehab, which addresses the psychological side of addiction. There are two main types of rehab: inpatient treatment and outpatient treatment.
Inpatient treatment is exactly what most people think of when they hear the word rehab. Just like the type of rehab most common in movies and on television, inpatient treatment is where patients live within a treatment facility during recovery.
During a patient’s time within a treatment facility, they will probably take part in multiple kinds of therapy. They will attend group activities and individual sessions. They’ll likely follow a schedule full of activities with a goal of learning various ways of filling their time and coping without the drugs or alcohol. High quality rehab centers will also encourage patients to improve their overall physical health by staying hydrated, eating nutritious foods, and exercising regularly.
Inpatient treatment is usually shown to be the most effective addiction treatment method. This means that of all patients who complete a treatment program, those who have completed inpatient rehab are least likely to relapse in the future.
However, everyone is different. Outpatient treatment can be equally successful for some.
Outpatient treatment is actually very similar to inpatient treatment. Most aspects of the treatment remain the same, but patients continues to live in their own home or otherwise away form the facility. They only go to the facility itself for specific scheduled activities, meetings, and therapy sessions.
Outpatient treatment is almost always the cheaper option between the two types of rehab. However, it does not provide the constant supervision and and encouragement that likely makes inpatient treatment so successful. It is usually the ideal option for those with other lasting commitments like work or school.
For many people, professional treatment is what they need to be successful in addiction recovery. But not all rehab centers in the Sammamish area are the same. Anyone who is interested in treatment should take the time to make sure they program they chose is right for them.
The best drug and alcohol rehabs offer clients their own treatment plans. They tend to be small and private, which only maximizes the amount of time staff can spend with their clients. It is important to ensure that the chosen rehab program is accredited by The Joint Commission. This is key because it indicates that the treatment meets a high standard of excellence.
There are currently no drug and alcohol treatment centers located in the City of Sammamish itself. But there are several in the surrounding cities and areas, according to the SAMHSA treatment locator.
There are a total of 16 addiction recovery programs located within 10 miles of Sammamish. They are found in Bellevue, Issaquah, Kirkland, Redmond and Duvall. Additional options are available farther away from the city.
Out of the 16 treatment programs in the Sammamish area, only one of the offers inpatient services. The rest of them all provide outpatient treatment for their clients.
Unfortunately, addiction isn’t completely curable. Recovering addicts must choose not to use one day at a time to stay on track. Something that helps many recovering addicts long term is participation in a support group. These groups bring recovering addicts and alcoholics together to share their experiences and hold each other accountable in sobriety long term.
Groups like Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous also pair participants with a member who is further along with recovery, called a sponsor. Sponsors work alongside newer participants through the 12 steps to recovery. SMART Recovery groups instead follow a Four Point program, but with the same goal in mind.

Usually, those who love an addict or alcoholic are just as negatively affected by the addiction as the addict themself. Because of this, there are also support groups available for the friends and families of drug addicts and alcoholics. These groups let the affected loved ones come together to share experiences, learn more about what their friends and family members are going through, and learn important coping mechanisms (alongside skills to prevent them from enabling those they love).
The most prominent of these groups are Al Anon, Nar Anon, and Alateen. Alateen caters specifically to older children and teens who are close to alcoholics. The group functions much like the other groups, but with an added emphasis on breaking generational cycles of addiction. This can prevent the young participants from following in the footsteps of the addict they know.

Outpatient rehab can be an excellent option for people who need that level of care. At Ashwood Recovery, our outpatient program is known to be among the best in the region.
We understand that people experience addiction and recovery differently. That is why we offer three levels of care. It allows us to meet our clients’ needs more accurately and help them to be successful. Our clients will be recommended for either partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient treatment, or traditional outpatient rehab. It is also not uncommon for our clients to start with one level and progress to another.
We have a location to better serve our clients’ needs. We are located in both Nampa and Boise.
People who live in Sammamish may find it inconvenient to come to Idaho to get help for their addictions. This is especially true for those who have a desire for outpatient treatment. Fortunately, we do have a sister program in Washington State called Northpoint Seattle.
At Northpoint Seattle, their outpatient rehab program is designed to mimic our own. It also includes the three levels of care, and they have many of the same services that we do. For their clients’ convenience, they have one location in Seattle.
People who are in need of inpatient treatment have nothing to worry about. We also have a facility in Washington State that offers residential treatment. It is called Northpoint Washington, and it is located in the City of Edmonds.
At Northpoint Washington, they provide both detox and rehab services. Their patients typically spend a week to ten days in detox, and then they transition into rehab. Because both are under the same roof, this transition is completely seamless.
People often put off getting professional help for their addictions because they worry about the cost. Going to treatment does not have to be expensive for someone who has health insurance.
Health insurance companies are required by law to provide benefits and coverage for addiction treatment. These benefits include both detox and rehab. Every policy is different as far as what the coverage includes. Some people may find that they do not have to pay anything to go to rehab. Others may need to pay a small copay or coinsurance amount.
At Ashwood Recovery, we want to make sure that paying for rehab is the furthest thought from our clients’ minds. Their focus should be on recovering, which is why we have partnered with so many health insurance companies in our area. We work with Blue Cross of Idaho, Aetna, Cigna Health Insurance and many others. Because we are in-network with them, we bill them directly.
At Ashwood Recovery, we strive to provide our patients with the very best addiction and alcoholism treatment available. We want to treat addiction holistically, healing every part of the individual and setting them up for a long-lasting recovery.
Our programs incorporate many different recovery techniques. We hope to tailor these techniques to the unique needs and recovery of each patient. Possible techniques include 12-step principles, group therapy, trauma resolution, cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, dialectical behavioral therapy, EMDR, individual counseling, family counseling, and evidence based modalities.
If you’re ready to recover, we’re ready to help. Check out our addiction quizzes, learn more about our mission and facility, and read more about detox and rehab. Then, contact us to get started.
