Group therapy has shown to be very effective in addiction recovery. That is why 12-Step groups like Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous are so popular. These organizations offer weekly support group meetings that are free of charge. There is also no cost for becoming an AA or an NA member.
When addiction strikes a family, the results can be devastating. Family members may not know where to turn for help and support. Al-Anon and Alateen also offer weekly groups where loved ones can come together with others who are in similar situations. Together, they can listen to one another and provide each other with encouragement.

Young people are always welcome to join in with Al-Anon meetings when there are no Alateen meetings in their local area. Teenagers can also register to join in with Alateen chat meetings online.
Even though AA and NA are two great resources, they are not right for everyone. In fact, they may not be appropriate at all for someone who is new to recovery. Many people find that starting with a professional addiction treatment program was the best choice they could have made.
Professional drug and alcohol rehab allows people to work closely with experts who know how to treat addictions. There are so many benefits to this because people with chronic substance abuse problems typically need a lot of support. They may need services that are not available in 12-Step groups, such as treatment for co-occurring disorders.
The SAMHSA treatment locator tool tells us that there are 33 drug and alcohol rehabs in Spokane. These are all found directly in the city, and they are a combination of inpatient and outpatient programs.
There are many additional options farther away from the city as well. In fact there are a total of 37 options within a 10-mile radius of Spokane.
