Mental health conditions in preadolescents and adolescents can go undetected. The symptoms might surface as behavioral problems such as: not following rules, physically acting out, verbal aggression, drop in grades, isolation, and thoughts of suicide or self-harm. The physical, emotional and social changes adolescents experience can make them vulnerable to mental health problems. The consequences of not addressing adolescent mental health conditions can extend to adulthood and impair both their physical and mental health. This, in turn, can restrict opportunities that lead to fulfilling lives as adults.
