University Place, WA Addiction Rehab and Recovery

Addiction Rehab and Recovery Options in the University Place, Washington Area

The University Place, WA area is filled with options for drug and alcohol rehab, and there are many other resources as well. People can even choose to attend treatment or support groups online to get the help they need. There is no reason for anyone to feel like they have to try to quit drinking or using drugs on their own.

12-Step programs such as Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous can be life-changing. In fact, millions of people worldwide have recovered from their addictions because of attending either AA or NA meetings. Also, Al-Anon and Alateen are there to provide support to families and young people with addicted loved ones.

Though we are not affiliated with these programs, we know how helpful they can be. We believe they should be included here as some of the best addiction recovery resources in the University Place area.

Drug and Alcohol Detox Near University Place

University Place is home to several drug detox centers. Each of these facilities helps addicts to get drugs out of their system.

Oftentimes, detoxing is one of the most difficult steps in recovery. When an addict goes through the process of ridding their body of drugs, they experience withdrawal symptoms. Sometimes these symptoms cause them to relapse.

Professional detox is valuable because it helps the addict to stay away from drugs during withdrawal. That way, they can’t relapse.

It’s also valuable because it allows the addiction to withdraw under a doctor’s supervision. These doctors work to minimize symptoms so that the addict can withdraw as safely and as comfortable as possible.

Rehab centers are another valuable resource for recovering addicts. There are a number of rehab programs in the University Place area.

These centers are important because they support addicts through the first few weeks of sobriety. These weeks are crucial in an addict’s recovery. Rehab gives them a place to speak with therapists and counselors who help them manage their transition from addiction to sobriety.

In rehab, addicts spend a lot of time learning about how addiction works and why they’re triggered to use. They also learn how to manage triggering situations and how to cope with stress without using drugs. Addicts who attend these programs are far more equipped to avoid relapsing than those who rehabilitate on their own.

Drug treatment doesn’t have to cost a lot of money. Click here to find out if your insurance company covers detox and rehab.

Technology has allowed many addiction treatment programs to offer online rehab services for their clients. This is such a great development because it means that a lot more people can get treatment, even if they cannot appear physically.

Telehealth and online video conferencing platforms like Skype have been instrumental in connecting people with professional treatment. Clients can work with their therapist individually and even participate in group therapy sessions.

Alcoholics Anonymous

Alcoholics Anonymous, sometimes referred to as “AA”, is one of the biggest alcohol addiction support networks in the world. This group is famous for holding meetings where alcoholics get together to talk about recovery.

These meetings are free. Most of them are open to the public. Meetings are held in University Place and nearly every other city in America on a daily basis.

In these meetings, recovering alcoholics discuss how their addiction affected their lives. They share stories. They open up about their regrets. And, they update each other on their recovery progress. Senior members (those who’ve been sober for many years) offer advice to newer members on how to stay sober.

Each member works through the Twelve Steps. This is a system designed by AA’s founder. The system helps addicts to overcome their addiction by encouraging them to help the people around them instead of focusing all of their energy inward. For many people, it’s the key to getting sober.

If you or someone you know is struggling with a drinking problem, AA could be a great resource. There’s a range of different meetings in the University Place area every day of the week.

Also, the Online Intergroup of Alcoholics Anonymous has an online meeting directory that lists even more meetings. They use Skype, Zoom and other platforms to connect participants with each other.

Narcotics Anonymous

Narcotics Anonymous, or “NA”, is another popular addiction support group. It’s fundamentally the same as Alcoholics Anonymous but is designed for drug addicts instead. If someone is addicted to drugs of any kind, the group wants to help them get clean.

NA members are addicted to all kinds of things. There are cocaine addicts, heroin addicts, and crystal meth addicts in the program. There are also people who’ve become dependent on prescription drugs. It’s even common to see a few marijuana addicts in meetings.

The group doesn’t care about which drug someone uses. Their only concern is that the individual has a strong desire to overcome their addiction.

Like AA, this group operates around The Twelve Steps. Members work through the Steps at their own pace. Over time, this system helps them to turn their lives around.

There are many NA meetings around University Place. If drugs have taken over your life, this could be a good resource for you.

SMART Recovery

SMART Recovery is a popular alternative to AA and other Twelve Step programs. It is open to alcoholics, drug addicts, and anyone else who wants to overcome a destructive habit.

Instead of using the Twelve Steps, this program uses a proprietary “4-Point Program”. The system helps addicts to abstain from using their drug of choice.

The 4 Points of SMART Recovery are:

  • Point #1: How to build and maintain motivation
  • Point #2: How to cope with urges
  • Point #3: How to manages thoughts and emotions
  • Point #4: How to live a balanced life

Each of these Points is intended to help addicts achieve sobriety in a practical, strategic manner.

Unlike AA and NA, SMART Recovery does not use any spiritual or religious language. There is no discussion around a “higher power” or prayer (like there is in the Third Step of AA). As a result, many non-religious people gravitate toward this program.

All SMART meetings are free and open to the public.

Al-Anon

Al-Anon is a group developed for the people whose lives are affected by other people’s addictions. The family members and friends of addicts often suffer just as bad as the addict themselves. So, this group provides a safe place where those people can go to get help.

When someone loves an addict, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. The parents, children, spouses, and siblings of addicts often suffer in isolation. They may experience anxiety, depression, guilt, and even anger. Over time, those feeling can take a toll on their physical and emotional health.

Al-Anon aims to help family members and friends improve their own lives. It does so by teaching them how to manage stress and how to let go of the things they can’t control. In meetings, members are given a platform to speak honestly about their emotions without fear of judgment. For many members, these meetings are similar to therapy.

The people in Al-Anon come from all different walks of life. There are members who’ve lost family members to addiction and others who live in fear of losing their families. Everyone in the group benefits from the help and support that Al-Anon offers.

Is your life being impacted by someone else’s addiction? Here are a few meetings that may be able to help:

How Many Alcohol and Drug Rehab Centers are in University Place?

The SAMHSA treatment locator indicates that there is only one rehab program that is located in University Place. There are several others within 5 miles of the city, but many of them are located closer to Tacoma.

The program that is in University Place offers outpatient services. The others are a combination of both inpatient and outpatient programs.

About Our Idaho Outpatient Rehab Facility

At Ashwood Recovery, we specialize in outpatient addiction recovery services. Our program is designed to speak to the unique needs of our patients, which is why we offer many levels of care.

Our outpatient program includes a more traditional outpatient rehab, intensive outpatient treatment and partial hospitalization. We carefully screen every individual who comes to us seeking help to make sure they are placed in the correct level.

Many of our clients are people who have come to us after completing detox and an inpatient rehab program. But not everyone starts there. We also work with people who cannot commit to a 28-day stay, but who need professional treatment in order to recover.

For those who live in Washington State, we do have outpatient rehab centers that are closer to home. Northpoint Seattle is our outpatient program in Washington, and we have a location in Seattle.

At Northpoint Seattle, they have the same levels of care that we offer at Ashwood Recovery. They also have many of the same services, as well as staff members who are passionate about helping their clients be successful.

Information for Those Seeking Inpatient Drug and Alcohol Rehab in WA State

We frequently talk with prospective clients who have a need for inpatient treatment. For them, we recommend our closest inpatient facility, Northpoint Washington. This rehab center is located in Edmonds, and it is a 28-day program.

At Northpoint Washington, they offer a drug treatment program, as well as alcoholism recovery. Most of their patients need to go through detox as well as rehab, and that is included in the 28 days.

Inpatient drug and alcohol rehab gives people the opportunity to really focus on their recovery efforts. It is a form of care that is highly recommended for anyone who is new to getting professional treatment.

Does Health Insurance Pay for Rehab and Detox?

It very common for people to hesitate about going to a professional addiction treatment center for financial reasons. They assume that they will need to pay for rehab out of their own pockets, and that is not the case at all.

In 2010, the Affordable Care Act was signed into law. When that happened, insurance providers were required to include benefits for addiction treatment for their customers. The problem is that many people are unaware of that change.

Many insurance companies offer higher reimbursement rates for people who choose outpatient programs. But the coverage is usually still quite good for inpatient treatment as well.

At Ashwood Recovery, we know how important it is to make addiction recovery affordable. That is why we are in-network with so many insurance companies, including Blue Cross of Idaho. That is one of the largest insurance providers in our area.

We also accept all Cobra plans, so even if someone is out of work, they can still get the support they need to stop using.

For those who do not have health insurance, the best place to start is HealthCare.gov. There, they can shop for an affordable policy. But if that is not an option, there are other ways to pay for rehab.

SAMHSA offers grants to those who do not have insurance and who cannot pay for rehab. Sometimes people use online funding campaigns to raise the money they need for treatment. It may also be possible to borrow money from a relative or take out a personal loan. Some addiction treatment programs even offer in-house financing.

At Ashwood Recovery, we are invested in our clients’ healing processes. We are here to help by offering financial guidance and referrals if necessary.
