Opting for Professional Addiction Treatment

While attending AA and NA meetings can be helpful, they are not always the answer everyone needs. Some people need to go to rehab and get professional treatment for their addictions. It is important to know what to expect if this is the case for you.

Drug and Alcohol Detox

When beginning treatment, there are many people who will need to go through detox first. It is important to address the physical side of the addiction, which is what the detoxification process does. This might not be required for every type of addiction, but for those who need it, it is often a critical part of recovering.

For example, alcohol is a drug that can lead to serious complications when it is stopped. People can experience delirium tremens, or DTs, which can be fatal when they are not treated appropriately. Alcohol detox can reduce the risk of problems during the recovery process. It can also shorten the duration of withdrawal and make recovering much easier.

People who go through drug and alcohol detox prior to rehab typically have much better long-term outcomes than those who do not. That is why it is so important to find out if this is a step you should take as well.

Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Programs

After detox, rehab is the next step. This type of treatment addresses any possible co-occurring disorders (mental health conditions) that could have caused the addiction. People with conditions like anxiety or depression will frequently use substances as a way to self-medicate. It can be difficult to move away from this way of living their lives. Going to rehab makes it possible.

People experience various forms of treatment during rehab. They will have individual counseling sessions, group counseling, and many other forms of therapy.

Choosing an Outpatient Rehab

When choosing an outpatient rehab, it is important to opt for the right one. At Ashwood Recovery, our program consists of many different forms of care.

Some people do really well during outpatient rehab, but others need a higher level of care. For them, an intensive outpatient program or partial hospitalization might work better.

We are known as one of the best treatment programs in the state, and for good reason. We allow people to have plenty of time with staff, but they get the flexibility they need too.
